What to expect in a one to one at Apollo’s Boxing, At Apollo’s Boxing in Bolton we have one to one boxing lessons and small boxing classes all day seven days a week. The boxing one to ones are probably are most popular option currently and most people who start boxing with us start with the boxing one to ones and then move over to our boxing classes once they are more confident and understand the way we teach at Apollo’s Boxing in Bolton.

Our one to ones run basically the same as our boxing classes, if you have read our other articles on the site you will see that we concentrate a lot of footwork and defence work down at Apollo’s Boxing so the one to one session will run like this –

Warm up – The warm up like in the boxing classes will start with some boxing basics including footwork, basic punches, basic ring craft and some defence work with your boxing coach. The warm up is based on technique so that you are not running round a matt, skipping or shadow boxing by yourself. Basically at Apollo’s Boxing we want to give you the full hour of boxing technique and drills so we start with boxing technique in the boxing one to ones.

Technique work –  Depending on your training goals the boxing one to one will start with some technique work, At Apollo’s Boxing we are big on drilling the same techniques or variations of the same techniques for four weekly blocks. The reason for this is for the boxing technique being taught to become drilled in like software on a computer and you cannot do this in one lesson. The technique work could be anything from feinting to set up punches or explaining how to trap your opponent, we are not big on just teaching combinations of punches but rather explain the ideas behind a boxing match and improving our boxers boxing IQ! The technique part of the boxing one to one will always involve boxing footwork and boxing defence work.

Boxing conditioning work – In your boxing one to one at Apollo’s Boxing it is totally upto you what you want to do, a lot of people prefer just to work the pads for boxing technique and not use the boxing one to one for fitness, however is you wanted to we can incorporate some fitness into the one to one either by working some rounds on the pads or by working through some boxing specific intervals either on the boxing pads or on the punch bags at Apollo’s!

Combination work – In all the boxing one to ones at Apollo’s Boxing we like to finish with some combination work, in the main part of the boxing one to one we don’t feel like combination work is a great way to train and rather train fundamental ideas that always apply to a boxing fight but at the end of the session we feel like the combinations are a great way to improve endurance in our boxers, improve memory, develop some slickness in their punches and combinations and also people love the Mayweather type of combination work so they leave the boxing one to one feeling better!

With all our boxing classes and boxing one to ones at Apollo’s Boxing in Bolton we like to follow the same structure and that goes for all our boxing coaches too, we feel like if the boxing one to ones and the boxing classes follow the same structure and formula then everyone is on the same page and working towards the same goals. It also means that whether you train in our boxing classes or the boxing one to ones you are working the same fundamental ideas and even if you train with the different boxing coaches too!
