What to expect in a boxing lesson or boxing one to one at Apollos Boxing, Bolton. At Apollos Boxing in Bolton we like to teach our customers as much boxing as possible.

Our boxing classes and boxing one to ones are split into different sections, below is roughly how each boxing class or boxing one to one is broken down –

  • Warm up – Any form of exercise should always start with a specific warm for the exercise that is about to be performed.

At Apollos Boxing in Bolton we like to start each boxing class with footwork as warm up. Every fight starts with footwork so it makes sense that footwork is a priority at the start of training.

We like to get as much partner work into each lesson at Apollos Boxing too so we then move onto some footwork based partner drills.

After the boxing footwork and boxing partner drills we then move onto some basic boxing drills for example how to throw each shot correctly how to move your feet correctly and some basic defences.

  • Technique work – We cycle our training every few weeks or until we feel our boxers have picked up that aspect of boxing training.

At the moment we are drilling jab defences and jab counters, everyone knows that the jab is the most important shot in boxing so we feel at Apollos Boxing in Bolton that jab defence should be prioritised. If you take away the jab you take away the starting point of most attacks.

  • Sparring – Sparring is the most realistic and important part of boxing training and each session at Apollos Boxing in Bolton has some aspect of sparring involved.

The sparring in the boxing session will depend on the type of technique the boxing class has been based on so for example if we have been training jab defences the sparring would be jab sparring.

  • Conditioning – This part of the lesson is to get our boxers specifically conditioned for a competitive boxing bout.

Even though you may never want to actually compete in a boxing match if we get you fit enough and in the physical shape that a boxer should be for an amateur boxing bout we are sure that will be a good goal for anyone who wants to get fit to achieve.

  • Stretch and lesson recap – This is at the end of the boxing one to one or boxing class.

Every boxing class or boxing one to one ends with a stretch to cool down and to prevent any injuries from happening, it is also a good time to recap the boxing lesson or boxing one to ones main points across and ask for any feedback on the session.
