Apollo’s Boxing tips – shadow boxing, at Apollo’s Boxing in Bolton we like to make sure we include as much boxing technique into each hour training as possible.
From the boxing specific warm up right through to the boxing conditioning and boxing fitness sessions we aim to educate our amateur boxers and mma fighters and also our boxing keep fitters with as much boxing knowledge as possible.
Training for any sport should always be sport specific to not only warm the correct muscle groups up for the sport taking place but also to enhance any techniques that are training, shadow boxing for boxing fits perfectly into this category. It is not only a very specific way to warm up your muscles for your boxing technique or boxing fitness sessions but it also a great way of practising your boxing technique without any pressure and gives you time to explore your own boxing technique and work on your own specific boxing style!
The main aim of shadow boxing is to warm up for your boxing session but it is also a great way to visualise how these boxing techniques would work, for example while throwing your punches and boxing combinations you can not only check your technique but also to visualise the openings you leave open while throwing your boxing punches and seeing what punches work in boxing combinations.
Footwork in boxing is a massive part of boxing and with shadow boxing you don’t have the urge to hit either the pads, a bag or your opponent with power shots so the emphasis turns more towards correct technique and footwork.
Footwork is a massive part of boxing and at Apollo’s Boxing in Bolton we emphasise a lot on footwork and train from the floor up right from the start of your boxing journey whether you come to Apollo’s Boxing just to get fit and lose weight or to compete in an amateur boxing match or sharpen up your boxing skills for a white collar boxing match or even an MMA fight.
Shadow boxing can be trained anywhere so there is literally no where you cannot practise your boxing technique!
At Apollo’s Boxing in Bolton we try to use partner drills more than shadow boxing as a way to warm up, at the start of each boxing sessions there will be an element of footwork to start with and using your partner to simulate your opponent. One of the main boxing drills we use is to get your partner to either walk towards you whilst you adjust your position to their position and visualise the shots you would be able to land!
On a whole shadow boxing is very useful for any boxing training and has been been used at some point by every great boxer in history.
