Apollos Boxing technique – Creative punching, at Apollos Boxing in Bolton we like to educate our boxers and improve their all around boxing technique from boxing defense to their boxing attack.
Something that we teach a lot of down at Apollos Boxing is to set up your punches intelligently which means your not trying to break your opponents neck with every shot, some punches can be used as set up shots for other shots!
Just the same was that not every kick of the ball in a football match is designed to go in the back of the neck some of the punches we throw in a boxing match are designed to get you in position to attack your opponent or to open up your opponents defense and allow you to land your heavier punches now that the lighter set up shots have opened up the defense of your opponent.
If you watch some of the more talented boxers in both professional boxing and amateur boxing you can see they throw some shots not to land but to open other avenues for their heavier shots, professional boxers such as Vasyl Lomachenko and Floyd Mayweather use these boxing techniques at the highest level against other high level opponents!
The basic idea behind setting up a punch is explained above showing one shot usually a lighter shot to set up a heavier shot, basically like a magician using slight of hand, one hand distracts you while the other hand delivers the shot! There is no perfect boxing combination that works all the time but some of the very high percentage punches that work together and boxing combinations that we use at Apollos boxing in Bolton are below –
Loose long range left hook into a strong straight hand down the middle
Light rear hook to the body followed by a heavier rear uppercut to the head
Show a light jab to the head shoot a heavier jab to the body
All of the shots above follow the idea of setting up one shot with another!
At Apollos Boxing in Bolton we are not great fans of specific techniques but rather teach high percentage general ideas instead, so instead of a specific combination like the above mentioned ‘Left hook right hand’ we explain how that technique works (by distracting with one hand and hitting with the other)
The who idea behind creative punching is just to intelligently attack your opponent and not just try and break through your opponents guard with brute force!
Apollos Boxing teaches all of our members how to not just intelligently attack their opponents but just how to use all aspects of boxing intelligently!
