What to expect in an advanced boxing class at Apollo’s Boxing, the advanced boxing class at Apollo’s follows a similar system to all our boxing one to ones and the boxing fundamentals classes.
The advanced boxing classes like the boxing one to ones and the boxing fundamentals classes follow Apollo’s Boxing’s system and training working towards improving our boxers boxing IQ and understanding of the game.
The advanced boxing class is for boxers that have already trained in our boxing one to ones or in the boxing fundamentals classes and goes like this –
Warm up – The warm up in the advanced boxing class is a specific warm up which includes partnering up and working on advanced ring craft and how to control your opponent and open up there defence. This warm up is something that we aim for all our boxers to be able to complete as this would be the warm up before our boxers compete. At Apollo’s Boxing we try to get as much boxing into the hour as possible so warming up with boxing technique means you are working on boxing from the beginning of the boxing class or boxing one to one.
Boxing technique – At Apollo’s Boxing we like all our boxing classes and one to one to be more partner drill based so we don’t really teach them how to pad each other but rather get them to work defensive drills against each other. The technique part of the boxing class will be based on what we are currently training at Apollo’s Boxing for example feinting or using the European guard. One of the boxers will be getting used to defending and the other boxer will be getting used to attacking a defensive opponent.
Specific sparring – In the advanced boxing class we will always involve some sort of boxing sparring, if the boxing class has been based on feinting then one boxer will be defending and one boxer will be attacking using feints! This type of sparring reinforces the boxing training we have been working in the boxing class!
Sparring – Every advanced boxing class at Apollo’s Boxing in Bolton will finish with some sparring, the sparring is more technical work and the aim of this sparring is to try and use some of the boxing techniques that have been taught throughout the boxing class. Sparring doesn’t always have to be one hundred percent effort with both boxers trying to hurt each other, this sparring is necessary sometimes but at Apollo’s Boxing we believe you get more technically from technique sparring and having something to practise in the boxing spar rather than just trying to win every round of sparring.
Finisher – At the end of the boxing sparring we like to finish with a fitness type of drill with your partner. Typically this is a one to one type of combination drill where one boxer throws a combination the other boxer defends it and then the opposite boxer throws one back, this is done at a high pace to get the heart rate up and conditioning for both boxers and again to keep working on defence.
This is a basic breakdown of the advanced boxing classes at Apollo’s Boxing in Bolton, the best way to get a true understanding of our boxing classes is come down to Apollo’s Boxing and try out our boxing classes or boxing one to ones and see for yourself!
