Setting up body shots in Boxing, everyone who has ever been hit in the body knows how much damage they cause, but just knowing how to throw a body shot and where to throw it isn’t always good enough.
At Apollos Boxing in Bolton we are constantly trying to improve our boxers intelligence around the sport, so we don’t just concentrate and getting fit and sparring we work on the science behind landing the punches intelligently!
In Boxing you can only hit the head or the body but quite a lot of boxers concentrate just on hitting the head, this makes it very easy to read what your opponent is planning, at Apollo’s Boxing we emphasise using every legal target on the body as a way to opening up somewhere else on the body!
To set up a body shot you need to either distract your opponent from the area your attacking by either feinting a shot to the head or by throwing a light shot to the head so that then you can attack the target you actually want to hit.
You can also you your defence to set up a body shot which is something else we concentrate a lot on down at Apollo’s Boxing in Bolton, when your opponent is attacking it leaves an opening for the body shot!
Hitting the body has more than one use, for example as mentioned above you can use the body to distract your opponent to set up a head shot or the body shot could be used as a way to finish a fight! Some boxers have great chins but even the toughest of boxers in either professional or amateur boxing cannot take a well timed body shot!
